SWIMMING ASSOCIATION

FIRST ANNUAL BALL \ With amber-shaded lights and floral decorations the Peter Pan Cabaret presented a festive appearance last evening when the Auckland Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association held its first annual ball. Special cubicles had been set aside for representatives of kindred swimming clubs in Auckland, each being decorated with the colour of the particular club. During the evening Mr. R. M. Sheffield, the chairman of the Auckland Amateur Sv.Vnming Association, on bplialf of the members, presented medals to the winners of the New Zealand swimming championships recently held at Napier, the recipients being:—Miss M. Farquhar, Miss J. Webster, Miss M. Leydon and Mr. R. Frankham. Special numbers, entitled "Over the Waves" and "Stormy Weather," were played by the orchestra. A novelty tap dance was given by Miss Phyllis Oakes and Miss Phyllis McCarthy, and a demonstration of modern ballroom dancing by Miss Natalie Stratton and Mr. Matthew Stratton.

On arrival the guests were received by Mrs. R. M. Sheffield, the wife of the chairman, who wore a frock of delphinium blue brocaded taffeta. The chaperones present were: —Mrs. AY. Batty, who wore beige angel-skin lace; Mrs. J. Enwright, in daffodil georgette; and Mrs. T. McCarthy, ivory Frenche suede. There were also present: —Mrs. H. Dowsing, in willow green Chantilly lace; Mrs. L. Nelson (Tauranga), reseda green satin; Mrs. W. Williams, daffodil organdie; Miss M. Farquhar, black ring velvet; Miss B. Bruce, shell-pink satin; Miss G. Spratt, black velvet; Miss E. Dowdle, black satin and tulle; Miss N. Macdonald, blue and daffodil floral georgette; Miss R. Greenwood, phlox-pink taffeta; Miss R.
