CHAMPION DAFFODILS
NORTH ISLAND AWARDS SHOW AT PALMERSTON NORTH [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] PALMERSTON NORTH, Wednesday Tho North Island amateur daffodil championship for the Auckland Horticultural Society's challenge trophy for 12 distinct varieties of daffodils resulted as follows: —Mrs. M. Moorby (Wanganui), 1; F. R. Pepperell (Elthain), 2; A. J. P. Thomson (Lower Hutt), t3. There were five entries. The Willson Perpetual Challenge Cup, presented by Mr. Guy L. Willson, Antrim, Ireland, was won by H. J. Poole (L'ower Hutt), with A. Gibson (Marton) tho only other exhibitor, second. The competition was for six varieties of whito trumpet daffodils, British-raised. Mr. Poolo won the trophy in 1930 and 1932. The Gibson Perpetual Challenge Bowl, valued at 45 guineas, for 24 varieties of daffodils, was won by A. Gibson, with H. J. Poole second. There were three ontrics. The Martin Challenge Cup, valued at 21 guineas, for 12 varieties of daffodils not in commerce and raised by the exhibitor, was awarded to W. E. Weightman (Awahuri), who also secured the second award. C. Goodson (Hawera) was third.
Tho Rhodes Silver Challenge Cup, valued at 25 guineas, for 42 varieties of New Zealand-raised daffodils, was won by W. E. Weightman, A. Gibson being second, and H. J. Poole third-^ The Marchand Cup, for six varieties of red-cupped daffodils, was won by W. E. Weightman, with A. Gibson second. There were four competitors. The National Daffodil Society's champion certificates for tho premier bloom in the various divisions .of the national classes were awarded as follows: —Mrs. Moorey (Wanganui), W. E. Weightman (Awahuri), H. J. Poolo (Lower Hutt), A. Gibson (Marton), W. H. Booth (Carterton), W. E. Weightman (Awahuri).
