BOWLERS' AFFAIRS

SOUTH AUCKLAND CENTRE SECOND ANNUAL MEETING A DELEGATE WITHDRAWS [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Wednesday The business of the annual meeting of the South Auckland Bowling Centre was reconsidered at a further meeting of the centre to-day. Mr. J. T. North, of Te Awamutu, presided over a record attendance. A meeting of the centre was held on June 28, and new officers were elected. Mr. Pilkington, a member of the Dominion Council, questioned the qualifications of many of those present at that meeting, and, as the result of protests made to the Dominion Council, the meeting on June 28 was declared null and void on the grounds that irregularities had occurred. A hitch occurred at the outset of to-day's meeting. When the roll of delegates was called, Mr. Pilkington challenged Mr. W. A. Jordan's position as the Whakatane delegato. On the form received from Whakatane, Mr. C. W. Loane Was nominated, but letters wece received from Whakatane stating that Mr. Jordan, of Hamilton, would be Whakatane's delegate. Mr. S, Lewis suggested that the question of admitting Mr. Jordan to participation in the meeting bo put to the vote, and that if no one dissented, he should be allowed to remain.

The question was put, and all but Mr. Pilkington voted in its favour, Mr. Pilkington explained that his only object in expressing opposition was to see that the Dominion rules were observed.

The chairman, Mr. J. T. North, ruled that Mr. Jordan could not act as the Whakatane delegate. Mr. Jordan protested that Mr. Pilkington 's action w'as most unsportsmanlike in view of the definitely-expressed views of the Whakatane Club inv its letters. Mr. Jordan then retired. The next business was the consideration of the report and balance-sheet, which were adopted with little discussion.

\ "Nominations were called for the position of president, Messrs. P. H. Rowe (Otorohanga) and S. V. Tyler (Hamilton East) being nominated. The Rotorua delegates said they desired to know the candidates' views on Sunday play. The chairman ruled that the questibn of Sunday play was a matter for the Dominion executive, which had given a ruling on the subject. He would not permit the candidates to express their views.

The ballot resulted as follows: —Mr. Tyler, 21 votes; Mr. Rowe, 19. Mr. Tyler had been elected at the June meeting. The other officers were elected as follows: —Vice-president. Mr. Rowe; executive, Messrs. R. McFarlane, S. Lewis, W. W. Maingay. R. Metcalfe, J. T. North, N. Bell, D. G. Meredith; selectors, Messrs, R. McFarlane, G. S. Frost, and W. W. Maingay: auditor, Mr. C. A. Speight; treasurer, Mr. W. W. Dillicar; secretary, Mr. W. C. Wycherley. The meeting approved of the Dominion executive's decision that a new centre be form'ed in the Bay of Plentv. A remit from the Frankton Club that Sunday play be pormitted was withdrawn.
