OBITUARY

Jin. R, B. MUIR Mr. R. 13. Muir, chief inspector of the. Union Bank of Australasia, Limited,. died very suddonly on August 31 at his residence at Armadale, Melbourne. The cause of death was heart failuro. Ho had enjoyed good health for some years past, and attended to his duties as usual on the day before his death. Mr. Muir was widely known and esteemed „among Australian bankers. Born in 1878 at Greenock, Scotland, he, as a young man, joined tho British Linen Bank. Afterwards he ontered the service of the Union Bank of Australia, Limited, in London, and in 1889 he was transferred to Australia. Mr. Muir successfully occupied various important positions, including the management of tho Hobart," Adelaide and Melbourne offices. In June, 1928, ho was appointed chief inspector. During last year ho acted as general manager while Mr. W. A. Leitch was on a visit to Loudon. Mr. Muir, who was married, but had no family, was a member of tho Melbourne Club, the Australian Club and the Royal Melbourne Golf Club.
