FAT STOCK MARKET

WEEKLY WESTFIELD SALE PRICES SHOW IMPROVEMENT SHORT YARDINGS GENERAL Owing to short yardings in most sections, improved, prices for fat stock ruled at the weekly Westfield sale yesterday. Thero was a, particularly buoyant tone in the market for wethers, which were keenly sought. ■' Tha»yarding of cattle amounted to 500 head, compared with 450 head last week, and included a 'majority of nice quality lines. A good general demand came from local buyers, with exporters interested slightly in> boners. Inquiry was chiefly for light-weight ox, which was a shade firmer in price. Cow and heifer „beef, which was not plentiful, and heavy-weight ox sold at late rates. Sheep were penned in considerably reduced numbers and tho sale throughout was accompanied by spirited. bidding. Wethers averaged Is to 2s a head more than 5 last week and the top price, 33s 6d, was 3s 6d higher. Ewes were firm at late rates, while the limited supply of hoggets accounted for higher values in this section. Prime hoggets sold up to 30s 3d, a'rise of 5s 3d. Spring lambs were somewhat scarce considering the progress of the season.
