DROWNING ACCIDENT
MARRIED MAN'S FATE
VERDICT AT INQUEST
An inquest was held yesterday before Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., coroner, regarding the death of a married man, Mr. Robert Gustavus Roberts, aged 40, of 4 Maria Street, Onehunga, who was lost from a dinghy in St. Mary's Bay, Ponsonby, on Friday evening. Deceased's body was recovered on Tuesday afternoon as a result of dragging operations near where the accident occurred.
The companion of deceased on tho evening of the fatality, Frank Rawlingson, of Onehunga, said deceased and he rowed to a launch some 300 yards from the wharf in St. Mary's Bay,, It was dark, and the sea was choppy. Witness got on board the launch, and deceased was following when he lost an oar overboard. Deceased set out in tho dinghy to recover the oar, and once called out that he had seen the oar but missed it. A few minutes later there was no reply to a call by witness, and he did not see deceased again. search was made, and the dinghy was found on the beach. Deceased was in good health and spirits'. A verdict of drowning caused by the accidental overturning of the dinghy was returned. '
