AMATEURS MAKE PROGRESS ' Remarkable progress has been made by amateurs in the sport of wrestling during the past two or threo years and, with no restrictions regarding holds, a team from Auckland would capture many titles at a New Zealand championship meeting. The amateurs at the Town Hall invariably place tho crowd in good humour for tho professional bouts to follow. One of the best of this division seen at the Town Hall for some time was F. French, a light-weight, who defeated B. Keesing 011 Mi<rj■ Tji.v evening. He displayed a fine all-round knowledge of holds, his wristlocks being particularly severe. Charlie Pollard lias been matched in a return against Miko Sefarich and the pair will meet at Kaikohe next Saturday night. Pollard gave a bright display v-hen he defeated the Dalmatian in Auckland a few weeks ago. Police Officer Fred Becll, 57 years of age, former world's middle-weight wrestling champion, was shot and killed at Marshfield. Wisconsin, United States, 'on August 5. when he and another officer interrupted an attempted machine-gun robbery at tho Marshfield Brewery Company.
