SYDNEY, Sept. 3 Many spring candidates were seen in actipn yesterday at the Canterbury . Park races, which were held in fine weather and before a large attendance. Silvev Scorn was scratched for the Canterbury Stakes owing to slight lame- " uess which, however, is not considered 6erious. The race was won comfortably by Chatham from Tom Pinch and Care Free. The New Zealanders Autopay and Golden Hair, finished sixth and geventh respectively, Autopay's bad showing, although first away from the barrier, confounding his friends. Dole was prominent early. ' New Zealand horses engaged in other races all ran unplaced. Korokio was nob in the first eight in the Flying Handicap, six furlongs, won by Touchit. J. O'Sullivan rode three winners, namely, Touchit, Magnitas in the September 1 Handicap, and Samovar in the Campsie Handicap. MEETING AT CAULFIELD DEFEAT OF HALL MARK (Received September 3, 5.5 p.m.) / MELBOURNE, Sept. 3 the feature of the Victoria Amateur Turf Club's meeting at Caulfield yesterday was the defeat of the three-year-old Hall Mark oy Waltzing Lily_ and Break Up in the Memsie Stakes. Finishing with a wonderful burst of speed Waltzing Lily cut down Hall Mark in the straight and won running away by three lengths from Break Up, who de< fcated Hall Mark by a head. In view of his recent good form Hall Mark's defeat was totally unexpected. The New Zealand colt Wheriko, ridden by Ashley Reed, won the Warriston Handicap, this being his second victory at Caulfield this season. Dazzling Raid and Sir Simper ran unplaced in their races.
