POLICE AS POLITICIANS SPIRITED DEBATE * When an improvised mace had been laid upon tlie table and the Speaker (Sergeant F. Downie), wearing a wig, had taken his place, the first model Parliament hold by the Melbourne Police Debating Club was opened recently. The Prime Minister (Detective Webster) introduced a bill "for an act to suppress the activities of the organisation known as the Communist. Ptirty." ,'! There was much spirited debate. SubInspector Gorey, as leader of the Opposition, was supported in his opposition to the bill by Constable C. Hughes, on the Opposition benches. Sergeant O'Mullane was Minister of Defence, Constable Courtney was Attorney-Gen-eral, and Senior-Constable Howell was Minister of Home Affairs.
