WIN FOK NEW ZEALAND MISS KAY'S SUCCESS DEFEAT OF MISS TOLHURST THREE PLAYERS RETIRE ILL By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright (Received September 1, 9.5 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Sept. 1 The international golf match between New Zealand and Australia for the Tasman Cup was played to-day. The teams were not selected until the last moment owing to the illness of prominent players. Mrs. J. C. Templer (New Zealand) played although she was far from well. In the singles Miss Susie Tolhurst (Victoria) lost to Miss Olive Kay, one up; Miss O. Lefebvre (New South Wales) defeated Miss B. Gaisiord (New Zealand, one up; Miss Mona MacLeod defeated Mrs. H. Dodgshun (New Zealand) p three and two; Miss J. Hammond (New South Wales) defeated Mrs. Templer, four and two. Australia, three games, six points; New Zealand, ono game, two points.
Miss Tolhurst was three down to Miss Kay after 10 holes,, but won three holes in succession. The game was still all square at the fifteenth. Miss Kay won on the last green. The approximate figures were: Miss Kay, 79; Miss Tolhurst, 81.
Miss Lefebvre was three down at the turn, but put up a great fight to defeat Miss Gaisford on the last green. The foursomes in the afternoon were sensational as Misses Tolhurst, MacLeod and Hammond were compelled to withdraw owing to illness.
Miss Kay and Miss Gaisford defeated Miss Lefebvre and Mrs. Russell,: two and one. This was the only foursome played, making the totals three matches to New Zealand and three to Australia. On a count back of the holes Australia had eight holes in the singles and New Zealand .ono. New Zealand had 12 in the foursomes (one walk over counting as a win by 10 and eight). New Zealand thus won the Tasman Cup.
