INTERPRETING SCRUM RULES MATCH WITH HAWKE'S BAY ATTRACTION FOR SATURDAY The interpretations of scrum rules by referees was disoussed at last evening's meeting of the Auckland Eugby League, when Mr. It. Doble, delegate to the New Zealand League, read a report from the New Zealand Referees' Association. Mr. J. Rukutai said the Auckland League had attempted to improve the soruma by allowing the halfback to place the ball in the sorums. This the New Zealand Council had over-ruled as being contrary to the laws of the game. The chairman, Mr. G. Grey-Campbell, said the matter of rulings was not local but world-wide in all codes' of football. He expressed the hope that the conferenoe ,to be arranged by the New Zealand Association would be the means of obtaining uniformity in rulings, particularly in regard to scrums. V' The Hawke's Bay League advised its representative team would arrive this evening and would stay at the Criterion Hotel.

It was decided to write to the West Coast League expressing appreciation pf the conduct of its players on and off the field in its recent tour to Aucklan^. Permission was granted to the City and Ponsonby Clubs to visit New Plymouth and Taradale respectively, on Saturday weok.

The complaint of the Newton Club of the failure to provide line umpires to senior matches on - No. 2 ground was referred to the appointments board for a re* port.

A request from the Mangere Club for financial assistance was referred to the junior management committee. The Wellington League advised that the visit of the Celtic Club to Auckland had been abandoned. 'lt was therefore decided to play tho champion of champions match between Devonport and Richmond on September 16.
