LADIES' HOCKEY
QOOD EXHIBITIONS Although the .grounds were bumpy on Saturday for the senior games decided by the Auckland Ladies' Hockey Association, some good exhibitions were given. Kiwi met CWvedon, the former tasting defeat for the first time this Season, and Technical drew with Ngaro. Of the two games tho one between 'Ngaro and' Technical was the better. Ngaro again, appeared to ho the ..Stronger team, but its many onslaughts on tho Technical net were fruitless because of lack of finish in circle, and tho bunching of players. The Technical defence was well tested, but did good work throughout the game, Miss Jcffery being always prominent. The Technical goalkeeper deserves Ipecial mention, also Misses Jcffery and Miss Culluhj. Miss Bragg was tho outstanding Slayer for' Ngaro, although Misses couller and Jones showed to advantage at times. If Ngaro's forwards had --hot bunched in their opponents' circle they would have secured more goals. In tho other senior game Clevedon tasily overcame Kiwi. Kiwi plainly undertook to do much moro than its Capabilities would permit. Had Kiwi accepted the association's offer to take a postponement for the date on account three of its outstanding players being absent with the representative team in Dannevirke, this defeat might, have beori averted. However, on the day, devotion was to be congratulated on its play. Throughout tho game Clevedon was more aggressive, and some good passing bouts wero carried through successfully. By 'half-time, as a result of Clevedon's tactics, the scoro was 4to I in its favour. Celvedon added fivo fnore goals in tho second spell and Kiwi brie.
Misses Meiklejohn. Hyde, Williamson, ""ft. Smith and .T. Muriro were always prominent for Clevedotji, and. did good work, while'for Kiwi the outstanding players were Misses J. Carlaw, M. Francis' and E. Mayall. Tho defeat of Kiwi does not affect its position at the head of ■ the table in tho senior ferade. Championship matchp will be continued next Saturday, according to programme, and,' in addition, a Waihi represent a tivo team will play a gamo with ,tto Kiwi, jMiw town..,.
