WAITERS AND TIPPING
The association of Hungarian waiters has petitioned the Lord Mayor of Budapest to abolish tipping. They argue that the system of tipping is demeaning to the waiters and disadvantageous to the tourist traffic, and demand that the system of one waiter to one customer be introduced. According to presept fashion three waiters serve every customer. The association demands a weekly salary of 14 shillings and 10 per cent of the daily takings of the restaurant or cafe. They also demand that closing time shall be advanced from two o'clock to midnight, and that on Sundays and holidays all restaurants shall open only at mid-day, so that waiters may attend divine service.
