PLAIN WEDDING BREAKFAST

"A SANDWICH PICNIC" ■ MUSICIAN'S QUIET MARRIAGE / Dr. Adrian Boult, the eminent conductor .and music director of the British Broadcasting Corporation, was married on July 1 in the \-illage of Ditchling, Sussex. The bride wag Mrs. Ann "Wilson, daughter of Captain F. A. R. Boules, R.N. The wedding was intended to be a secret one, and no one could hare been more aurprised than Dr. Boult when he found that the secret was out. An hour before the ceremony he was seen in the Old Meeting House, Ditchling, where Free Christians have gathered for over 200 years, with his great friend Sir Walford Davies. " This is a terrible shock," said Dr. Boult smilingly. " I thought our secret was safe, but it is too much to be annoyed on such a day as this. I have no best man, my bride has no brides-, maids, and there is no reception. " We have a much better idea than that. Our wedding breakfast is to be a sandwich picnic on the Downs. Then we are going abroad, but I refuse absolutely to tell you where." The ceremony took place in the Old Meeting House, and lasted only a few minutes. vSir Walford Davies played an aria by Bach on the harmonium, and the couple walked to a table before the pulpit, where Dr. Henry Gow, Unitarian minister at Brighton, married them.
