LORRY OUT OF CONTROL
SOMERSAULT OVER BANK INJURIES TO OCCUPANT [by telegraph—owx correspondent] KOTORUA, Thursday A motor accident occurred between Ngongotaha and To Puke yesterday morning, when a motor-lorry, driven by Mr. Valentine C. Florey, of Xgongotaha, somersaulted over a bank on the Mangarewa Gorge Road near To Pu. One of the occupants, Mr. K, Payne, was injured. The clutch apparently sprang out of gear and the motor-lorry began to gather speed down the hill and could not be controlled by the brakes. Travelling at a fast speed, two corners on the road were negotiated successfully, but at the third the machine jailed to respond to the wheel' and somersaulted three times down a 40ft. bank. The driver and Sir. A. Brown, of Kaingaroa, were thrown clear, but Mr. Payne was pinned to the ground and received slight concussion and injuries to his shoulders and legs. Tin lorry was badly damaged.
