OBITUARY
MR. H. F. ROWLANDS [by telf.graph—own correspondent] DARGAVILLE, Thuraday Another Northern Wairoa pioneer, Mr. Henry Fuller Rowlands, of Aratapu, died at his residence last evening, after having spent a busy life of almost 70 years in and around the district. Born at Croydon, Surrey, England, in 1848, Mr. Rowlands came to New Zealand in 1864, settling at Te Kopuru. In the first few years after his arrival, Mr. Rowlands ran a cutter called the Rocket between Helensville and Northern Wairoa River ports. Later ho ran the Euphetnias and carried mails to Matakohe, Pahi and Helensville. He also sailed on a wellknown river steamer, the Minnie Casejv under tho late Captain Rawson. In 1873 Mr. Rowlands married Miss Charlotte Copey, afterwards living at Helensville for a brief period. He returned to To Kopuru, and later removed to Aratapu, where he had resided since. For many years Mr. Rowlands was employed by the Kauri Timber Company, Limited, at Te Kopuru, Aratapu, Tangowahire, and later by tho Hcjbson County Council as wharfinger at Aratapu, a position 'ho retired from about two years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Rowlands were to have celebrated the diamond jubilee of their marriage on October 3. Mr. Rowlands is survived by his wife and 11 children, Messrs. Louis Rowlands (Auckland), Wallace Rowlands (Opunake), Oswald Rowlands (Melbourne), Burnside Rowlands (Turivviri), Arthur Rowlands (To Kopuru), and Mrs. Stuart (Auckland), Mrs. Seymour (Turiwiri), Mrs. C. Hume (Dargaville), Sirs. Wyness (Sydney), Mrs. J. Fernandez (To Kopuru), and Mrs. C. Vauso (Dargaville). There are 43 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Two sons were killed at the war.
