RETURN OF THE COST PLANS FOR EMERGENCIES [BV TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION"] WELLINGTON, Thursday The president of tho Tararua Tramping Club has issued a statement on the financial aspect of the search for the party of trampers who were lost in the Tararuas recently. The figures relate to the Wellington cost, the Wairarapa, Levin and Manawatu expenses having been dealt with separately in those districts. The receipts were:—Tararua Tramping Club, £29 18s lOd; kindred clubs, £ll Is; public subscriptions, £47 9s 6d; the members of the lost party, Miss Williams and Messrs. Hill, O'Keefe and Sutch, £l3 13s. The expenditure on the injured searcher was £33 5s 6d, on an Aero Club grant, £5 ss; on a radio emergency corps grant, £6 lis; on food, fares and transport, £57 10s; total, £lO2 2s 4d. The president says that, with the approval of the Manawatu Tramping Club, an inquiry was held concerning the search. Numerous reports, including a report from the missing party, were closely examined, and as a result safety rules and recommendations had been formulated. These had been published in August. No attempt had been made to criticise the actions of the missing party, the sole object being to obtain information of value for the guidance of future parties. A scheme for a search organisation and co-ordination for future occasions was being dealt with, the president said, and would bo distributed for approval by other clubs and by search committees in due course.
