COLDER TEMPERATURES J Tho (Jovernmenfc meteorologist reported last evening as follows:— A rather deep depression is centred off the west coast of the South Island and is likely to cross the Dominion to-night. The pressure has risen rapidly in eastern Australia. Indications are for moderate to strong northerly winds, changing soon to strong sontherlies. Seas rough north of Farewell Spit and East Cape; elsewhere moderate, but rising generally. In the eastern Tasman Sea, strong southerly winds to gales, with rough to heavy seas. The weather will be cloudy and unsettled with general ■ rain and some heavy falls of snow on the high levels. Temperatures becoming cold to-morrow. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —Heavy rain in the morning gave place to scattered showers toward noon, and fijje weather prevailed later. A moderate breeze blew from the north-east in the morning, the wind later veering to the west. The barometer, which, fell sharply in the morning, rose again during the afternoon and evening. Wellington.—After a mild day with considerable sunshine, rain began to fall last evening. A light northerly wind was blowing. Christchurch. —The weather yesterday was dull with a light shower late in the afternoon. The maximum temperature was 53 degrees. The barometer fell from 29.73 in. to 29.62 in. j Dunedin.—The weather was fine but cloudy yesterday with a light southwest breeze.
