THE CHURCH AND ECONOMICS

Sir, —May I bo allowed to defend tho meeting in tho Scots Hall on Sunday. Does "G.F.1." think handing out a few rags cut down from age seven to fit ago three is Christianity? The .Rev. Averill's address was mild compared to tho teachings of Christ. Under tho Douglas system we should be nearer to tho God that made us. May wo have more and moro men like Mr. Averill to talk living issues to living people is my prayer, and that "G.F.1." may come out of tho smoke liouso of theology. J. Gladden. Sir, —I for one was drawn closer to the Church through listening to the inspiring address given by the Rev. Walter Averill at the Scots Hall on Sunday afternoon last. This fine gentleman does not stand alone in his support of a movement calculated to overcome tho causes of the tragic state in which the whole world stands to-day. In addition to the churchmen quoted by Mr. Averill, we have many of our own clergy who are supporters of the Douglas proposals, becauso the whole movement is a Christian ondeavour. I should very much liko to know if your correspondent "G.F.1." thinks that bad conditions make good people. W.S.M.
