Later they tried to burn it. Anciart, who 10 days ago had a position of almost supreme police authority, with power of life or death over the ordinary citizen, killed himself on Saturday after he had been hunted for a week. Ho died under an assumed name in a rented room. Another disorder marked tho passing of a former police sergeant, Tito Sampol. Pursued by members of the A.B.C. organisation, ho sought refuse in a cafe. There, in a rage, he killed a chauffeur, and then killed himself. Tho new Government began its second week with tho strike situation still acute. Nine European vessels are waiting to discharge their cargoes and four others are waiting with loads of suear. All may have to depart unless the port workers go back soon. Tho Government has lost 2,000,000 dollars in revenue and port fees. Shipping companies and exporters also have lost heavily.
