ACCURATE DRIVING

LADY GOLF PLAYfeRS The driving of Miss Kay and Miss Gaisford was a feature of the play at Titirangi last week; when members of the New Zealand ladies' team which will take part in the Australian championships met leading men players of Auckland. Both ladies consistently achieved greater length and accuracy than the average man. A quiet ease characterises Miss Gaisford's driving. She never appears to force the stroke at all and the motions of the swing make up an effect of great beauty as she displays them. It was noticed that the left arm at the moment of impact was always fully extended «with the elbow underneath. Miss Kay is a more aggressive type of shot maker, her iron shots suggesting that she has played a lot of golf with men. Strongly built, she plays all her fairway shots with great firmness and without sparing the turf, the only really effective method on heavy country. The contests against strange opponents on strange links proved an excellent match experience for the ladies on the eve of their departure. That they enjoyed the contest was evident, ana they were unstinted in their praise of the Titirangi layout as a test of golf.
