THE LEAGUE CODE
VISIT TO NEW PLYMOUTH SENIORS IN MID-WEEK PLAY MATCH AGAINST NORTHLAND Pleasure was expressed at last evening's meeting of the Auckland Rugby League when advice was received that two games of League ' football had been played at Hangatiki, near Te Kuiti. It was anticipated that at least four teams would bo found in competition next Saturday. At the request of the chairman, Mr. G. Grey Camp bell, the matter was referred to the New Zealand Council. The chairman reported that the visit of the Auckland team to New Plymouth last week was n success from the point of view of good football. The exhibition of the code was enjoyed by a fair crowd,, and .there was no' doubt considerable encouragement was given the Taranaki League to carry on. The mid-week competition committee gave assurance-that'it would assist in preventing senior grade players from taking part ia Wednesday, matches without their first obtaining permission from their clubs. The Northland League advised that its representative team to play against Auckland on Saturday was a strong side and would arrive late on Friday evening. Mr J. The question of different interpretations of the rules was mentioned by Mr. Campbell, who suggested that the New Zealand Council should, through some avenue., better acquaint southern leajaes with the laws of the game. He mentioned several incidents which occurred at New Plymouth. The matter was referred to the New Zealand Referees' Association. The special challenge round for senior clubs will bo commenced next Saturday week. The Roopc Rooster final, between City and Richmond, is to count as a match in tho challenge.round.' ~ ,
