At the Ascot races to-day the Three-year-old Handicap resulted:—Safari, 7.9 (Stead). 1- Semak, 7.9 (Parsons), 2; Pica, 9.0 (Bartle), 3. Eight started. Won by a length. Time, Itn 17Jo. . / Safari's owtiei', W. Higgins, who arrived at the week-end by the Wanganella. witnessed the race.

The Welter Mile was won by Prince Pombal, a former New Zealander, who hitherto had not won here.

MOONEE VALLEY RACES POURNFIELD PARK HANDICAP A. REED RIDES WINNER (Received AugUst 9, 8.35 p.m.) •' -MELBOURNE, Aug. 9 At the Moonee Valley races to : day'the Bournfield Park Handicap resulted:—Good Hunting, 8.0 (A. Reed), 1; Kaoota, 8.12 . (Shannon), 2; Flying Empress, 7.G (Skidmore), 3. Twelve started. Won by half a neck. Time lm IGJs. This was Reed's first ride since he was injured in May. MR. E. J. WATT'S COLOURS I j • i PAST SUCCESSES RECALLED Memories of triumphs scored at Ricoarton by horses- owned by Mr. E. .T. Watt were revived by tho success of Bay Tree in the ' Cashmere Plate on Tuesday. Years ago Mr. Watt's colours were very familiar on New Zealand courses and they were very prominent at Riccarton in tho 1912-13 season, when Midnight Sun won the Now Zealand Cup, Ventura the Juvenile Plato and Great Easter Handicap, and Jason tho Spring Nursery Handicap In the following season his horses won three races besides filling second and third places in the New Zealand Cup and Stewards' Handicap. Mr. Watt has since resided in Australia, and Bay Tree, his first winner at Riccarton for nearly 20 years, is now his only representative on the New Zealand turf. Up to the present Bay Tree has not been called upon to do much racing, but his Cashmere Plate victory indicates that he is going to fulfil the promise ho gave when he won a juvenile handicap at Woodville last season. By Chief l'uler from the imported mare Bayloch, ho is a full-brother to Azalea, who ran' some very creditablerace,s last season, and he is a good typo likely to go on improving for some time yet. I BREEDING s OF SILVOX * DAM RELATED 'TO AUTOPAY Silvox, winner of the. Avonhead Handicap at Riccarton on Tuesday, is a three-year-old bay gelding by Silverado from Toti del Monte, ■ hence n half-brother to the Great Easter winner Rebel Song. To date Silvox has had only threo races for a second and two .firsts and the manner in which ho accomplished his latest victory indicates that there, is mora success awaiting him. An interesting feature of Silvox's breeding is that, iibesides lieine.by the same sire as Silver' Scorn, his dam is a half-sister, by Cay Lad, to the brilliant Autopay. RODOSTO DISAPPOINTS LOSS OF FORM IN FRANCE Much disappointment was created when Rodosto, tho French-owned winner of the Two Thousand Guineas, was withdrawn from the Derby at the eleventh hour owing to being amiss after ' his trip across the Channel. However, he failed to race up to expectations in his subsequent races in France olid it seems very doubtful that he would have had a chance with Hyperion even if he had been able to compete at Epsom. Commenting on Rodosto's efforts in the Grand Prix at Longchamp and the Prix du President de la Republique at St. Cloud, Sporting Life sayß that much excuse t was made- for the Two Thousand Guineas winner's running in the great event at Longchamp, in which he was considered to have been the victim of the scrimmaging. Rodosto at Saint Cloud completely failed to stay the course of just over li miles. Ho showed clearly that even had lie been able to run at Epsom he would have been defeated.
