FINAL TRACK-WORK

SOME SMART SPRINTS FOREIGN QUEEN AND POLYDORA MAKE UP UNDER A CLOUD [BT TELEGRATH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] CHRISTCHURCH. Monday Tho Ricoarton tracks boro a very busy appearance to-day, practically all the horses encaged this week being eeen out. The trial grass was open for fast work and tliora were several useful gallops, mostly over short courses, while a little jumping over the schooling hurdles enlivened the proceedings. Water Power and Chrysology were to have galloped half-a-mile together, but they moved off with n big interval between them. Water Powor taking 49 3-5s and Chrysology 60s. The latter should show up befQre the week's racing concludes. Half-mile sprints were the popular assignments during the morning, the following times being recorded: —Gleaner beat Bell Hill in 525; High Rank and Imitator finished together in 51 2-ss; Martian Chief and Top Rank, in 52 2-ss; Elude, in 51s; Chief Light and Strong Light in 60 2-ss; Water Polo beat Haero Tonu in 51 S-ss; Cricket Bat, 50 l-ss; Silvox 51s; Drum Firo, along the . back, 40 4-ss; Charmeuse finished in front of Southdown in 50 2-ss; Fiat Lux and Bright Red, 49 2-ss; Luna Lux and Henry of Navarre, £4 l-ss; Manetho was half-a-length in front of Dorian, in 50 2-ss; Hounslow, Rational 11. and Marquetto, 52 3-ss; Silver Ring, 51s; Marmoration, 535. Beacon Fire ran five furlongs in 1.6. the }«t half-mile in 525. Foreign Queen reeled oil a similar task in 1.4 3-ss, the last halfmilo in 49 2-ss. Cyclonic was in front of Bay Tree for most of a five-furlong journey, but tho latter had a neck advantage at tho finish. The time was 1.6 1-5, the last half-mile taking 51 3-ss, St. Joan ran five furlongs in 1.7. Polydora ran right away from Cottesmore over the concluding Btages of five furlongs run in 1.5 2-5, the last half-mile in 525. Cottesmore was again disappointing. Takakua strode over sis furlongs in 1.19 2-5. Croupier was over two lengths in front of Cylinder at the end of six furlong?- run in 1.17 4-5, tho last half-milo taking 53 3-ss. Cylinder did not impress, but has never been a reliable track worker. Normandy and Epigram recorded 1.19 2-5 over tho same ground, finishing together. On the No. 7 grass Shatter and Nightly covered five furlongs in 1.2 2-5, the last threo furlongs in 37 2-5s Dracula took 1.3 1-5. Ranelagh was a length in. front of Hurlingham after covering tho same distance in 1.3. Polling Day (V. Langford) and Tea Urn jumped four hurdles, the former giving his usual fa«t display. Tea Urn again did well for a novico. Adventus (M. Nicol) jumped four fences satisfactorily and then strode over a circuit on the grass at a strong pace. Don Jose (G. Barr) and Joie do Val (H Turner), vcere companions over a round of the hurdles, both showing improvement on their previous essays. Lady Rene (A. Jenkins) and Night Parade (C. Low) set off for a similar school, but Night Parade crashed through the first fence and fell heavily. Lady Rene went on and jumped well at a fast pace. Night Parade later negotiated the four fences safely. Tentcall (H. Turner) jumped a round, taking each fence carefully. Make Up was trotted round tho middle. He was well banclaged on both front legs and moved very short. Unless the track becomes soft, which does not seem likely, he can be regarded as a doubtful starter to-morrow. His defection will be unfortunate for all concerned as he is very well at present and his display on Saturday clearly showed that the Riccarton country is not beyond him. ; TURF IN AUSTRALIA NEW ZEALAND HORSES TRACK WORK AND TRAINING (Received .August 7#"10.45»p.m?J- - -.?»> SYDNEY, Aug. 7" The New Zealand horse Fairway com-, peted in the Bank Holiday Handicap at the Victoria Park races to-day, but ran indifferently and finished sixth.
