The majority of tho trainers sent their teams on the roads, but some of the visitors had their horses on tho tracks, and as tho rain eased off during the morning, they were able to give their horses strong work. J. H. Jefferd was out with his team, comprising Cylinder, Cylonic and Bay Tree and all were given strong work with sprints home. Cylinder stripped well and was not as bulky as at Trentham where, in spite of that condition, he won tho Parliamentary Handicap in a convincing manner. He has evidently done well eince that race, and although ho may not be capable of winning the Winter Cup under his solid impost, ho should be seen to advantage over a longer journey later at the meeting. Cylinder's brother. Cyclonic, raced well under bad track conditions at Trentham. securing two thirds, and an improvement on this form can bo expected on the firmer ground at Riccarton. Luna Lux, in the charge of his owner. Mr. G. D. Beatßon, of Hastings, was also worked after the rain eased off. The gelding covered a circuit at a useful paco. There is no doubt regarding his solid condition. Mr. W. A. Tod. of Otane. Hawke's Bay, is accompanying Mr. Beatson on the trip. Ho is tho breeder of Luna Lux, and although he sold him some timo ago he still takes a keen interest in his activities. Croupier attracted marked attention when ho paraded in company with tho other members of T. R. George's visiting team. Malje Up, Landmark and Korero. Ho appeared to be still on tho big side, but -is in solid order and his re-entry on Tuesday in the saddling paddock from which he was called j upon to make a hurried exit on the occu* | sion of hia previous visit to the course 1 will be awaited .with keen interest. Croupier j is to remain in George's charge during | the week's racing and will be handed over to C. Emerson beforo George leaves for home. Adventus and Henry of Navarre wero assoicated in a milo and a-quarter task at a strong, oven pace. The former bears a bright appearance and many racegoers who have followed hi 3 form through the present jumping season expect him to perform well in his engagements next week. Henry of Navarre, who has come South in the charge of his rider. A, McDonald, is a bold galloper and should be ono of the favourites in the Trial Hurdles on Tuesday. _ High Pitch did not show much signs of soreness when covering a circuit on the sand, but ono of his quarters was cut during the work and his prospects for next week will bo further prejudiced. . Tho Hawke's Bay owner-trainer. H. Gregory, gave Jen a Tound on the sand. Sho did not hit out very freely in the slonpv going but is expected to do well on firm ground. She will probably be sent over some of tho bur fences to-morrow. TURF IN AUSTRALIA >. rosehill meeting KODAPEN WINS HANDICAP (Received August 4. 8.55 p.m.) SYDNEY.
