GIRL'S DOUBLE RESCUE
MAN AND WOMAN SAVED Courage and modesty are qualities possessed in a high degree by Dorothy Wild, a 12-year-old schoolgirl, who rescued two adults from the River Severn, near Stourport, Worcestershire, and said nothing about it. No one would have known had not someone reported the girl's heroism to her head mistress, Miss Woods. After a fortnight the facts leaked out;. A woman was swimming in the Severn when she was seized with cramp. A young man went to her assistance, but he, also, got into difficulties. Dorothy Wild, whose parents have a bungalow by the riverside, brought the woman to the bank and then rescued the young man. • Alderman Morris, chairman of the Birmingham Education Committee, said that the girl was a credit to the school, and made educationists feel proud that the instruction in swimming and lifesaving given at schools was capable of such results. Dorothy learned to swim as a scholar at Waterloo Road. Last season she gained the proficiency certificate of the Life-Saving Society.
