PENSIONERS' COMPETITION
Sir, —I am pleased that your correspondent "Citizen" again brings up the question of superannuitants taking up other paid jobs after retirement. Although a superannuitant myself, I consider it a most selfish thing for a man to do, cutting another man out of a job, especially now when work is so hard to get. I understand that here in Auckland two local bodies, at least, employ men with very fair allowances. Just recently the Superannuation Board decided to make each pensioner give a certificate on the monthly voucher as to whether he had or had not done other paid work in the period. Perhaps the Government, on seeing how matters stand, intend stopping the practice. Superannuitant.
