Mrs. Dan Riddiford, of Featherston, left by the express last evening after a short visit to Auckland. J. Mrs. Percy Adams, of Nelson, and Mrs. Noel Adams, Wharekawa, Clevedon,.are at Hotel Cargen. Mr. and Mrs. Alan Donald are leaving" for Rotorua on Saturday, and will epend a short holiday there. Miss Baggstrom returned to the Dominion -yesterday after an extended Jour abroad lasting about two years. Miss Kennedy, of Wellington, arrived 5n Auckland on Thursday morning, and will sail by the Rangitiki for England. Mrs. F. A. Alexander and Mrs. Eliot Davis returned from London by the Rangitane yesterday. They are at the Grand Hotel. Mrs. G. Graham Russell, of Auckland, who has been touring abroad, is jt passenger on the Mataroa, which is due at Wellington from England on August 16. The Ellerslie Croquet Club held a jrery enjoyable card afternoon on Wedinesaay in the pavilion. The president presented the prizes to Mesdames Sharp, Laird, Gollan and Crawford. Among the players were Mesdames Craddock " Darby, Higgs, Harwood, Skinner,' Taylor, Mays, Piper, Roberts, McShane* Hay, Poulton, Christmas, Chapman; Thompson, Misses Hunter, Cawley and Dunn. Mesdames Woodward and Laird were hostesses for the afternoon. A Very successful bring-and-buy sale, organised by the Women's Club of St. Peter's Anglican Church at Takapuna, was held in the Parish Hall yesterday afternoon. The ladies' committee comprised Mrs. S. Heighwav, Mrs. C. Cutler, Mrs.' H. Dunn and Mrs. Watson. The programme, which was organised by Mrs. R. H. Trill, included songs and recitations contributed by Mrs. Bowman, Miss Wrigley and the Rev. R. H, Trill. Afternoon tea was served by the Misses Heighwav and Miss D. Spriggs, members of the Fleur d' Lys Club. As » result of this effort the church funds svill benefit by £4.
The weeklv. concert arranged by Mrs. Raeburn and Mr. A. Hamblin was held in ward 14 at the Public Hospital on Wednesday evening. A vorv delightful £rogratnme was given by the Overseas eague under the direction of Madame Aileen Johns. The items comprised songs, pianoforte solos, humorou,s numbers and a sketch by the Overseas League drama circle. The patients 6pent a very happy hour and a number ■were present from other wards. Those who controbute to the programme were Miss Joyce Hewitt, _ Miss N. Dykes, Miss Maud Clarke, Miss Jean Reynolds, Miss Dunnett. Miss M. \L. Leach and Mr. R- Gill. Mrs. A. Morris was tho —accompanist.
