THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE STRONG BUYING PRESSURE Operations on tho Auckland Stock Exchange. yesterday were confined largely to the banks and insurance groups, in which strong buying pressure was maintained. There was a slight expansion in the total turnover. State loans had steady inquiry, with the demand a shado better for 1940 4 per cent bonds and 1955 4 per cent stock. The last-named sold 2s 6d higher at £IOO 12s 6d. Tho forward movement in levels for Bank of New South Wales resulted in business at £32 ss, a gain of 12s 6d. New Zealands firmed at each call, closing offers being 3d higher at 49s 5d and holders quoting 49s 9d, a rise of sd. A sale 2d higher at 49s 5d was followed by a fuither transaction at 49s 7d. Nationals of Australasia wero placed 4s higher at £l2 17s 6d. Holders of Australasias remained silent, although buyers made a further advance, raising their limits by 2s 6d to £ll 17s 6d, which is 6s 6d higher than tho last sale price. Unions, which were last sold cum div. at £9 7s 6d, were placed at £9 ss. A gain of 3d all round in levels of New Zealand Insurance accompanied two transactions unchanged at 52s 6d. Sellers of South British hardened after a sale at the current rate of 70s. No supplies were available of National.-*, which were sought 2d higher at 17s. There were no outstanding movements in the general sections. GoldsbroughiMorts were released 4d lower at 26s 6d and a parcel of Loan and Mercantiles had sale unclfinged at £45. A gain of 4d was established in a sale of ItenOwn Collieries, preference, at 10d. British Tobacqos dropped 3d in business, at 345, and New Zealand Drugs were unchanged in two transactions at C6s. Tho mining group was marked by further appreciation in Blackwaters, which were done Is 3d higher at 28s 6d. Waihi Junctions were steady and had sale unchanged at 3s Bd, Waihis being a shade easier.
