THE CLASSIC CLUB
A very delightful programme was presented at a meeting of the Classic Club held on Tuesday evening, comprising modern operatic arias, French classical songs, lieder, trench and English songs, classical arias, pianoforte and 'cello solos. Among tho composers whose works were chosen were Lully (French classical song): Schumann, Schubert, R. Strauss and Brahms, (lieder)- Charpentier and Thomas (operatic arias'); Handel, Sarti and Arne (classical songs and arias); Cyril Scott and J. Ireland (modern English semgs): Fontcnailles and Massenet (Irench soncs) For the piano, Mozart, Scarlatti, Macdowell and York Bowel. were chosen and for the 'cello . Bargiel. Presenting the programme were Mr. Arthur Budd, Miss E>leen Miller, Mrs. Alfred Pascoo, Dr. H. Bclshaw.. Miss Jean Millar, Miss Irene Rich and Mrs. Maud Lysaght. The president, Dr. Kenneth Phillips, made a brief speech relative to the understanding and presentation of vocal items, such as correct pronunciation, style, rhythm, etc. About 110 members and friends were present.
