MARKETING IN LONDON DOMINION MINISTER'S PRAISE (Special to United Press Association, N.Z.) (Received July 27, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON. July 2G The New Zealand Minister of Industries and Commerce, Mr. R. Masters, and the High Commissioner for the Dominion, Sir Thomas Wilford, by invitation to-day attended an auction sale of New Zealand apples at tho Fruit Exchange, Spitalfields. They watched the salo for half an hour and afterward were entertained at luncheon. The Prime Minister, Mr. G. W. Forbes, had another appointment. In responding to the toast of bis health Mr. Masters spoke of tho value of this personal touch with the marketing of tho Dominion's produce in Britain. He said he.was pleased to see that the price paid for New Zealand apples was higher than for others, but even that figure, when tho costs, freight:, insurance, etc., were deducted in de him feci rather sorry for the pre nicer. Mi. Masters said ho was pleased also to know that tho control of the New Zealand fruit export trado was in such manifestly capable hands, especially in regard to supplying the market with the most acceptable varieties. Continuing, tho Minister said lie would like to reply of the criticisms made recently, ror instance, New Zealand had been charged with sending subsidised produce to England. That was not correct, though in the case of apples tho , Government had given a guarantee to tho growers of a certain return per case. If it had not done so it would have been very diflicult for the growers to set up in business and receive advances from the banks. The cost to the Government had been small, because the fruit had brought a reasonable price.
