He was also faced , with a civil action to recover money which he is alleged to owe. On the charge of failing to provide adequate maintenance for his wife Hart was remanded to appear on Friday, bail in the sum of £2OO allowed him at Hawera being renewed. Application for a remand was made by Senior-Sergeant Pender, who stated that the case would require the attention of a magistrate. He requested that bail should be renewed under similar conditions to those under which it had been allowed at Hawera, with the added requirement that accused should report to the Napier police daily. "There is no suggestion that Hart will try to evade his obligations in : uny way," said Mr. G. W. Nash, who appeared for Hart. | immediately following the granting of the remand in this case a civil claim I was called in which A. K. Dunstall *A. H. D. Mayne) sought to recover the sum of £8 10s from Hart. "Mr. Hart has been flooded with matters of this kind since his arrival in Napier," remarked Mr. Nash in asking that the matter should bo stood over until next Tuesday. Mr. Mayne objected to this, stating that he wished the case to be adjourned until Friday only. "There appears to be an idea that Hart intends to skip from town when he can," said Mr. Nash, "but that is not so. He will make no attempt to evade his obligations." Counsel added that a further claim for a large amount —in the vicinity of £2O0 —was to be heard on August 8, and Hart would have to be in Napier for that. The Bench decided that the ease should be adjourned until Tuesday.
