PROMOTING WRESTLING

HAMILTON SEASON CLOSED ASSOCIATION'S PROTEST [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Wednesday A decision to suspend operations for the rest of the year was reached at meeting of the executive committee of the* Waikato Wrestling Association last evening. The decision was made as a protest against the treatment of tho association by the Dominion Wrestling; Union and professional wrestlers. The president of the association, Mr. C. A. Mathieson, explained that tho meeting had been called as a result of the fruitless efforts of bouts, committee to arrange a match. Several matches had been suggested by the Dominion Wrestling Union. Owing to tho uncertainty of the fixtures, however, and the conflicting dates offered, thoassociation was unable to make thonecessary arrangements for a bout, and the dates were rejected as unsuitable. Mr. Mathieson said the whole position was unsatisfactory. Walker had been approached twice to wrestloin Hamilton, but on both occasions had failed to reply. Walker wrestled at theassociation's original bout in Hamilton, and since then he had appeared in tho local ring on four occasions, receiving: over £'3oo for Hamilton bouts. A motion to suspend the activities of the association was then carried. A sub-committee, consisting of M cssrs. Mathieson, W. H. Kenton, A. McHae and V. S. Harris, was appointed to deal with matters that might arise. It was decided to refund to members 15s of the £1 they had' paid as the annual subscription to the association.
