CONVERSION OF CARS
TWO YOUTHS SENTENCED TERMS OF DETENTION "It is impossible for me to treat these young; men leniently as they havo taken so many cars," said Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., when two labourers, Eric Gordon Dryland, aged 18, and Alfred Ernest Annan, aged 20, appeared for sentence in the Police Court, yesterday on charges of unlawfully converting motor-cars to their own use. Accused wero recently arrested by Detective Packman following inquiries regarding the unauthorised use of a number of motor-cars in the city and suburbs. For the accused, Mr. Schramm asked that the young men should not bo sent to Mount Eden prison. Each accused was ordered to be detained in a. Borstal institution for a period not exceeding two years.
