DAVIS CUP CONTEST

FINAL THIS WEEK FRENCH TEAM CHOSEN PARIS, July 24 Itene Lacoste, selector of the French Davis Cup team, announced to-day that the players chosen to defend the trophy for France against Britain, at the Stade Roland Garros, Auteuil, next Friday, Saturday and Sunday, are: —Henri Cochot, Jean Borotra, Jacques Brugnon and Andre Merlin. Lacoste stated: "Borotra will only play in the doubles, partnered by Brugnon. We have done everything we can to persuade Borotra to change his mind, but I must admit that if I had been in his place I would have done the same." The selection of tho second singles player had caused him a number of sleepless nights, said Lacoste, but Merlin on present form was the best choice. "We cannot say that Franco will keep tho cup, but we shall do our best," ho added. Lacoste appealed to tho public to provido an atmosphere of "fair play, which is apparently an allusion to demonstrations against line decisions during Austin's match with Allison on Sunday.
