INSPECTION OF SHIPS
VESSELS FROM AUSTRALIA PROPOSAL FOR EXEMPTION j Abolition of the medical examination by port health officers of passenger vessels arriving from intercolonial ports is to be recommended by the Auckland Harbour Board to the Minister of, Health, the Hon. J. A. Young. A report submitted to the board at its meeting' yesterday stated medical officers were now carried on all passenger ships and medical examination at Australian ports had been discontinued for some years. The report, with its suggestion of representations to the Minister,,was adopted. / At present all vessels arriving afc Dominion ports from outside New Zealand waters are subject to medical ex. amination on arrival. In May last year a concession was made in the case of ships from Australia, the inspection. in these cases being made alongside the wharf instead of in the stream as with other vessels.
