ALLEGATION OF THEFT

YOUNG CLERK CHARGED BROUGHT FROM AUSTRALIA A clerk, James Douglas Stevens, aged 26, was charged before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Polico Court yesterday, with stealing £l5O, the property of the New Zealand Government, on or about April 10. When Detective-Sergeant McHugli asked for a remand for a week, accused applied for bail. Mr. McHugh said ho had been instructed to opposo bail, as tho polico had had to bring accused under escort from Australia. The magistrate refused bail, and accused was remanded.
