SEQUEL TO ACCIDENT
COURT DISMISSES CASE [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] TE KUITI, Tuesday A case arising out of an accident to 1111 elderly woman was heard in the Magistrate's Court this morning before Mr. F. H. Levicn, S.M., when William Clokey was charged that on May 29 ho drovo his car backwards further than was necessary, and that he was driving in a dangerous manner. Sergeant Fearnley stated that on May 29 an eldorly woman was returning to her homo when the defendant, in leaving a garage, backed his car into her. The woman was still an inmate of the hospital and could not givo a clear statement of what occurred. Another witness could not be located. After evidenco had been heard Mr. Morton, for tho defendant, submitted that no evidonce of negligence had been placed before the Court. Tho magistrate agreed that there was a paucity of evidence. When a man or woman was knocked down there was no assumption, unless it could bo proved otherwise, that tho driver was guilty of negligence. Tho ca.so was dismissed.
