Tuesday Addressing tho grand jury at the opening of the quarterly session of the Supreme Court to-day, tho Chief Justice, Sir Michael Myers, said there were only four indictments. It was interesting' to note that the calendar included no cases, either for sentence or trial, such as had been referred to lately by Judges throughout New Zealand as being extremely prevalent—breaking and entering. Furthermore, there had been no committals for sentence for any liko offences since the last circuit of the Court at this centre. "If that means that you arc free in this district from offences of that nature," added His Honor, "I congratulate you. It may mean, howr .er, that a certain amount of crime has on and has not been detected."
