HOARD OF MONEY
IN DEAD MAN'S CLOTHES NEARLY £2OOO DISCOVERED After an elderly man, who was thought to hnv'j been very poor, died in Sydney Hospital recently, it waf. discovered that ho had a hoard of banknotes amounting to about £1640 and a bank book showing a credit of more than £3OO secreted in his old and shabby clothing. The man was William Alwyn, aged 66. The hospital authorities have endeavoured to find whether ho has any relatives in Australia. As far as could bo discovered, he had no relatives, and tho money is being held by the authorities. Alwyn went to Sydney Hospital a few days before his death seeking treatment. He was suffering great pain from a weak heart. Tho doctors discovered his trouble and he was admitted. Ho had been dressed in old and shabby clothes and gave • the impression that ho was a very poor man. After being put to bed, his clothes were placed in one of the lockers of the ward in the customary manner. Tho man's complaint was so bad that he became very low, and died of heart failure. His clothes were taken out by a nurse, who was amazed to find the hoard of money, which was in banknotes of all denominations, from £1 to £IOO. With the money was the bank pass book, showing that Alwyn had deposited more than £3OO. j
