SUBMERGED LAUNCH
DISCOVERY IN THE GULF TOWED TO MATIATIA A submerged launch was picked up in the Hauraki Gulf to the north-east of Motujtapu Island by the Northern Company's motor-vessel Otimai on Tuesday afternoon. The Otimai was en route from Auckland to Opotiki and after she towed the launch in to Matiatia, Waiheke Island, sho resumed her trip, having reported the incident by telephone to the company's office. The launch had no name on it. Inquiries are now being made by the police to ascertain if it was occupied when it became submerged or whether it had broken adrift from its moorings. The craft was identified as a lifeboat formerly belonging to the barque Rewa, which is now dismantled on an island in tho gulf. It is fitted with a motor engine.
