Boys placed on the land during April, ZUay and June last year totalled 42. lint for the same period this year about 160 boys had been allotted positions. The men would 1..! paid r,H a week and receive their keep, and would be employed rnamlv in preparing a number of six-acre allotments, planted with a variety of citrus .ind other fruits. Kach would have the ri-dit to take up one of the allotments at" the end of 12 months by giving a mortgage for the purchase price of £250, repavablo ats the yield was received from the land, it was decided to inniiire into the scheme. Sir Joseph Smith Kiid although a donation of £IOO to the committee's funds had been received in>m the Government, it was apparent that very nearly the whole of this amount had been repaid in thiee months. , . Mr. W. V. O'Donnell said it was an appropriate opportunity to bring this fact to the notice of the Government -with the request that another £IOO fliould be granted.
