CHARGE OF PERJURY
CASE AGAINST MAORI [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT] KAITAIA. Wednesday Before justices in the Police Court at Kaitaia, Walter Tepania, a native, was committed to the Supreme Court for sonteneo on a charge of perjury. The accused was represented by Mr. R. H. Kelly. Tho charge arose out of a case in tho Magistrate's Court, when Tepania was tried for shooting game without a licence. On his first aimoaranoe Tepania produced a licence. Although the magistrate, Mr. G. N. Morris, gave Tepania the opportunity to alter his pica, he stuck to his story that ho held tho licence when tho acclimatisation society ranger found him with birds in his possession. At tho next Court sitting evidence was given that Tepania obtained his licenco after being found by tho ranger. It was after this that the police took action and tho present charge was brought against accused.
