REDUCTIONS IN FRANKLIN OVER £7700 IN FOUR YEARS [from our own coiiuksponoknt] PUKKKOIIE. Wednesday In a statement presented at a meeting to-day of tho Franklin County Council, the clerk, Mr. Alan P. Day, showed that the reduction in the general rate in 1930 had amounted to £306, in 1931 to £lO7l, in 1932 to £3330, and this year to £2llß, making a total in the four years of £7755. There had also been an appreciable reduction iu tho 120 special loan rates. Tho amount of the hospital rate had remained practically the same. Tho establishment of an unemployment relief camp at Glcnbrook for tho quarrying of metal for closing tho clay gap across Brown's Gully on tho Waiuku-Drury Road and for metalling other roads in tho vicinity was authorised. A deputation of Arariniu residents, Messrs. D. Markham, J. Turner and P. Dunn, asked tho council to liavo a new direct road from Ararimu to Bombay dedicated, with a view to it later being formed and fenced. They offered £25 to cover tho cost of survey and legalisation. It was mentioned that the new road would give nuuiy settlers a route to Pukekohe 10 miles shorter than the present route. It was decided to inquire whether the Crown would co-operate by transferring somo land required.
