COURSE RECORDS LOWERED JUNIOR RIDERS PROMINENT The best road-racing conditions this season prevailed last Saturday, when tho live local amateur cycling clubs continued their series of winter road events. The calm atmosphere favoured fast times, and three club course records were broken besides many intermediate lap records. in tho Manuka 11 Club's senior race particularly fast times were made over the hilly-triangular course of two miles and a-half at Avondale South, and all records but that of Kim 17s for the two iaps, five miles, were lowered. This record was equalled by L. Jl. Dwiglit and J. I?. Hall, tho scratch pair, who established a new lap record 011 their initial round of 0m 2!>s, which was 2s better than A. W. I). Robinson's time. From three to eight laps, .1. Mrown, F. I'\ Hanoi* and 10. I). Andrews, all off 1 111, the nearest mark to scratch, were well within the old records. The new, times established by tho trio are: —miles, 20iii 2s; 10 miles, 2?mii 51s; ]2J miles, 33m 'lis; 1") miles, 40iu .bs; 17} miles, 47m 30s; 20 miles, 51m 3<s. Of tho twelve starters in the Auckland Club's short race of 11. J miles at To Atafcu, R. T. Taylor, a junior member, oil' 455. gained fastest, time with tho record figures of 2!hn 12s. 'I bis is the first time during the past two years a junior has achieved tho honour. Taylor is powerfully built for a rider under 17 years, and his mooting next Saturday 111 his club's open junior 'raco with G. Leonard, tho promising Manukau junior, is creating much interest. Riding from scratch in tho Takapuna Club's 20 miles eveut, R. G. Sharp succeeded in gaining fastest time for the sixth successive occasion with his club. Ilis time was 70ui 15s. An easy win accompanied M. Laurie's cllorts from tho 10m mark. Laurie won by 3m 25s from O. McKce, 5m .'los. Laurie gave a good exhibition of unpaced riding, for he took tho lead early in tho The diminutive junior member of tho Lvnndale Club, F. McCurdv, bad a popular win in his club's 12J miles raco from a field of 11 riders. With 12m start 110 won from 10. L. G. Hughes, 455. by 1m os. Hughes, in addition to finishing second, gained fastest time in .°,oiu 425. He beat the scratch pair, C. Gooder and C. Johnson, by four seconds. A field of 15 riders started 111 tho Pa pa toetoo Club's 14* miles event. Combining efforts, O. White and A. H. Y.azey, both off 3m, went through tho field to gain first and second plaeings respectively. Previously White had two thirds credited to him this year. A spirited race for time honours revolted in S. 10. Pinfold beating his scratch partner, 11. L. Francis. Pinfold rode the courso in 43m 50s to gain his first fastest time placing of tlie season.
