Mr. and Mrs. I). R. Caldwell, of Cam-
bridge, will leave by the Monowai today for Sydney.
Mr. R. Girling Butcher, inspector of explosives, is visiting Auckland. Ho is at the Star Hotel.
Mr. H. I?. H. Chalmers, formerly manager of the Bank of New Zealand in Auckland, returned by the Monowai yesterday after a holiday visit to Honolulu. Ho will leave this week for Wellington to take up. his new position aa chief inspector for the bank.
Mr. A. L. MacFarlane, of Christchurch, returned by the Monowai yenterday after a business trip to Canada
Dr. H. W. Strong, research chemist of Melbourne, is passing through Auckland by tho Monowai on his return to Australia after carrying out research work in coal oil production for Imperial Chemical Industries in England.
Dr. L. A. Mander, formerly director of the Workers' Educational Association in Auckland and now a member of the staff of the University of Washington, is a through passenger to Sydney by the Monowai, which arrived at Auckland from Vancouver yesterday.
Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Cunning, of Honolulu, arrived at Auckland by tho Monowai yesterday with a party of American school teachers. They are at tho Grand Hotel and will Jeavo to-day ou a tour of the Dominion.
Mr. E. G. Theodore, formerly Australian Federal Treasurer, is returning to Australia by tho Monowai after aholiday visit to Fiji. He is at tho Grand Hotel.
Mr. H. G. R. Mason, M.P. for Auckland Suburbs, left for the South by the express yesterday afternoon.
Mr. T. Watts, advisory superintendent of the United Fire Brigades' Association, left by the express yesterday afternoon en route to Pahiatua and Nelson.
The Rev. J. W. Kemp, who has been seriously ill for some time, underwent an operation on Friday. His condition continues to give great anxiety to his friends.
Mr. J. W. Ryan, a member of the judicial committee of the Auckland Trotting Club, has left for Wellington to attend the annual New Zealand Trotting Conference.
Sir George Fowlds left ♦Wellington last evening to attend a meeting of the Dairy Research Committee.
Mr. E. W. Alison left by the limited express last evening for the South.
