CLOUDY, COLD WEATHER IN PLACES LIKELY Tho Government, meteorologist reported Inst, evening as follows:—An intense anti-cyclone is centred to-day east of the South Island, while a slight eyelono is loeatcd north-east of Capo Maria Van Diomen. Indications aro for strong but decreasing southerly to south-easterly winds about and north of Cook Strait; elsewhere light to moderate and variable. Sens rough north of East Cape; rather rough thenco southward to Kaikoura and on the west coast of tho North Island; elscwhcro smooth to nioderato. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong south-east winds, with rather rough seas in tho northern portion; light and variable winds tending northerly in tho southern portion, with smooth to nioderato sens. Weather cloudy in eastern districts of tho North Island, with rain in places, but improving, except in tho north-east; elsewhere fair to fino. Cold temperatures, with sohio severe frosts in tho South Island.
