ASTRAEA'S FLIGHT
TIMOR SEA CROSSED ARRIVAL AT KOEPANG (Received July 10, 5.5 p.m.) DARWIN. July 10 The Imperial Airways survey aeroplane Astraea left Darwin at 8.10 a.m. to-day for Koepang, Timor Island. She arrived there at 10.20 a.m. ACROSS THE ATLANTIC LINDBERGH AND WIFE START FROM NEW YORK (Received July 10, 5.25 p.m.) NEW YORK. July 9 Colonel and Mrs. Charles Lindbergh are reported to have alighted near Rockland, Maine, late last night becauso of a fog. They took off from Now York in the afternoon en route to Halifax, whence they propose to proceed to Greenland. The object of the flight is to map a possible commercial transatlantic air route. KING'S CUP RACE COMPETING MACHINES VARIETY OF TYPES (Received July 10, 6.5 p.m.) British Wirclesn RUGBY. July 0 The air race for tho King's Cup yesterday was hold over four triangular courses from Hatfield aerodrome. . -The first course was 224 miles long, the second 206, the third 194, and tho fourth 205. Fifty-eight machines were entered, the most numerous being of the Puss Moth type, of which eight took part. . , Seven Cowper Swifts, four Percival Gulls and three Leopard Moths also competed in tho race, which was Oil a handicap basis. The first away from the aerodromo was a Spartan Clipper wit 43 minutes' start over the scratch machine, a Cowper Swift, piloted bj Flight-Lieutenant G. H. Stainforth, former holder of tho world s speed record. . . Several of tho competitors made forced landings in the early stages, but tho x>ilots were not injured. Tho Australian airman, Mr. J. Woods, who is on a flight to England, left Victoria Point, Burma, this morning for Rangoon, but a rain-storm compelled him to return.
