CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHES CITY TO MEET RICHMOND DEVONPORT AND NEWTON Another attractive programme has been arranged at Carlaw Park to-morrow, when the third aeries of matches in the second round of the Auckland Rugby League's senior championship will be decided. The championship is at present most interesting, as four teams are still in the running. The principal- attraction is between City and Richmond and a tine match should result, as each team has championship prospects. City is second equal with Marist, two points behind Devonport, the leading team. In the first round Richmond was successful by 21 points to 10, but the result is likely to be much closer to-morrow As a curtain-raiser Devonport will meet Newton. Neither side has beejx showing its earlier form of laße and a close matcii may result. The championship leaders will be weakened by the absence of R. Smith, who broke a small bone in his leg in the match last Saturday and will not be available for the rest of the season. There is also uncertainty whether Laing will , take the field, owing to an injured knee. The other game is between Marist and Pon sonby on the No. 2 ground and prospects favour the former. In the first round Newton beat Devonport by 11 points to 8 and Marist beat Ponsonby by 8 points to 6. Lower grade competitions will be continued to-morrow. Following are the teams:— CITY Senior Grade—Hughes, Wayne. Turei. Perry, Watene, Purely. Axeman, McLaughlin, J. Herring, Clarke, Pierce, Ragg, Peachey, Bowman. RICHMOND Senior Grade.—Hanlon, Marshall, Bennett, Mitchell, Young, Prentice. Lee. Ab bott, Powell, Lawless, Satherley, Telford, Milicich, Hawkes, Metcalfe.
