THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE TRADING AT HIGHER RATES Substantial business was done in New Zealand, issues at advanced prices on -the Auckland Stock Exchange yester■dfly. There was a general firming tendency in offers and a buoyant tone prevailed. State loans were quiet, only odd'supplies of 3J per cent and 4 per cent stock being available. Buying support was practically unchanged, a few adjustments being made which brought offers to a uniform basis. Additional supplies of banks were ■available. Commercials had sale twice at 16s, after which offers advanced by 3d to 16s Id, at which price a further parcel was secured. Quotations at 16s 3d showed a gain of 3d. New Zealands were sought 3d lower at 475, and two sales 3d lower at 47s 6d accompanied a fall of the samo amount to • that figure in quotations. Buyers of "Unions were willing to pay 2s 6d higher at £S 10s, but no supplies wero obtainable. Levels in tho insurance group moved forward. Nationals were firmer on the bidding ami a parcel changed hands 6d _ higher ati 17s. New Zealands also firmed, all round, and there were two rales at 49s 9d, ft rise of 3d. A slight concession by holders of South British prompted a rise of 6d to 68s in offers. In the general sections, GoldsbroughMorts moved forward, and sales were completed lid higher at 26s 9d and subsequently at 275. On sale at 6s 3d, New Zealand Guarantee Corporations gained Is sd. Auckland Gas gained 2d on . sale at 23s sd, and business was :-done in the contributing issue 3d higher at 17s 3d. There was a transaction in New Zealand Breweries unchanged at 335, and Electrolytic Zinc, preference, and New Zealand Paper Mills also were unchanged on sale. After a sale unchanged at 6s Id, Nev Zealand Refrigerating, contributing, ficmed to 6s 2d. Wilsons Cement was 1 takpn 10Jd higher at 31s lOjd, and Woolworths (Sydney) new preference issue had sale unchanged at 25s 6d. In the mining section Waihis were placed, unchanged .at 22s 3d. Black- " waters changed hands 7d higher at 23s 10d, and Golcondas id higher at lOd. CLOSING QUOTATIONS
